Fuel Consumption-

• Despite almost 60’ and over 40 tonnes ‘Gipsy is amazingly frugal and uses a fraction of the fuel burnt by similar sized craft. Please see approximate figures below;
• 1200 RPM- 3 LPH per engine
• 1400 RPM- 5 LPH per engine
• 1500 RPM- 6 LPH per engine
• 1800 RPM- 10 LPH per engine
• 2000 RPM- 12.5 LPH per engine
• On inland waterways I cruise at between 1200 and 1500 RPM. At sea I cruise at 1800 RPM. If against the tide I will increase to 2000 RPM. I never exceed 2000 RPM as the fuel burnt rises exponentially for little increase in speed.

Design-

Gipsy was custom built for a wealthy Dutch engineer and a member of the prestige KNMC Dutch Yacht Club. She was designed to maximise each measurement to enable her to transit the rivers and canals of Europe down to the Mediterranean from Northern Europe. 

She was also built to CE Certification A – Ocean going. So not only can she transit the European waterways to the South of France but she can return on her own hull via the Bay of Biscay back to Northern Europe. She was built to an incredibly high specification and has been extremely well maintained by her 2 owners to date. She is also Dutch CVO certificated from new build. 

Van den Hoven are a highly respected Dutch family low volume boatbuilder building custom built steel boats to a high standard. Owners are encouraged to visit the boatyard in the Netherlands and technical advice is always forthcoming in a timely friendly manner.

Recent History-

In my ownership she has travelled throughout the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, France and Belgium. She has been down the Rhine and the Mosel and visited numerous cities and places of interest. She was brought to the UK in 2023 and sadly, due to personal reasons, has had very little use since. UK VAT was paid at this time. Despite the limited use she was of course maintained at all times. 

She is an incredibly comfortable boat, both at sea and inland and very conducive to long stays on board – rarely do I want to go home!
