2010 North Quay 28 Catamaran for sale. Viewing by appointment only, this boat is not at Shepperton Marina!

Owners Description.

Cat Nap is an 8.5metre catamaran motorboat with “standard” 3.3metre beam.  She is much admired as a beautiful boat, yet is thoroughly practical as a coastal/river cruiser.  She is unique, a one-off designed as a “Land Rover” - go anywhere/do anything with big safety margins (2 engines/2 fuel tanks/4 batteries) but with comforts to make prolonged cruising a pleasure – our longest was 6 weeks from the non-tidal Thames in west London to Cornwall, via Cherbourg.  She has been up the Thames as far as Abingdon; around the east coast to Wells Next the Sea and the Norfolk Broads; and into most south coast harbours/anchorages from the Medway to Fowey in Cornwall.  She is in excellent condition and fully equipped for cruising.

History

She was built by North Quay Marine on the River Swale and completed in 2010 – constructed of strip cedar sheathed in epoxy inside and out; marine ply deck topped with Sea-Dek (2nd generation teak effect) January 2019; wooden wheelhouse with trawler style windows for excellent visibility in dry/shelter.  Seating for 4 at a table in the wheelhouse.  Removable helm seat.  Hob, oven, sink and fridge in easy reach.  With seat backs removed, she has 2 full sized berths in the wheelhouse but it would be possible to add 2 bunks in the starboard hull if you wish to share your space.  There is a great deal of locker and storage space throughout.

The hulls are deep (draws 0.5metre) and narrow, to be easily driven.  She is quite happy using one engine on the river.  The bridge deck between the hulls is high so she doesn't slam even into the largest waves.  At sea she cruises at 7 to 7.5 knots and this is very economical as the engines are modern 30hp units.  With an engine in each hull she can be turned in her own length (one in reverse, one ahead) and manoeuvring is easy in locks and marinas.  When the tide goes out she can take the ground or go shallow creek-hopping..
